History Of NSBCE
The Nigerian Society for Biomedical & Clinical Engineering is a National organization for Biomedical & Clinical Engineering Profession in Nigeria. The Society was Founded on June 12th ,2021 by a group of young Nigerian graduate engineers and students from Czech Republic, India, Ghana and Nigeria. The NSBCE is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission as a public company Limited by guarantee. Through carefully planned programs and frequent interactions across the various membership categories, the Society supports high professional standards and moral behaviour among its members.
The Organisation
It was incorporated as an entity limited by guarantee and not having a share capital in 19th September 2022. The original Memorandum and Articles of Association is yet to be amended. The Society is set to distinguish itself through progressive and imaginative programmes to become the sole avenue for the professional development of its members as well as Biomedical-technological development of the country.
MISSION AND VISION
MISSION:
- To enhance and promote engineering science and technology theory and practice in medicine and biology through learning, discovery, and translation for the improvement of human health.
- To drive our research and educational activities, such as symposia, webinars, and chapter programs.
VISION:
The Nigerian Society for Biomedical & Clinical Engineering will be one of the best professional organizations in the world and the best in Africa for the biomedical engineering profession.
OBJECTIVES OF THE SOCIETY
The Society’s objectives is to advance biomedical engineering practice, research, and education in all of its manifestations. Naturally, this is done with the intention of upholding and improving its members’ professional capacities in order to better prepare them to meet the demands of the profession for the benefit of the general public and the nation.
The objectives for which the Society is established are:
To actively encourage research in the advancement and sustainability of the Biomedical Engineering profession.
To create proper channels for the dissemination of results/findings obtained from scientific works carried out in healthcare sectors (hospitals, laboratories etc.), industry, military, and education sectors.
To encourage and promote Made in Nigeria Medical devices.
To subscribe to or guarantee or otherwise use monies of the charitable or benevolent objects or scholarships or bursaries or for any exhibitions for any public, general or useful objects.
To support the organizing of impactful conferences, training and workshops.
Actively participate in negotiations on legislative issues at a public hearing level in favour of the Society and its members for the best interest of service to humanity.
To create an avenue that allows for positive collaboration with research, and educational institutions, especially on secondary and tertiary levels, working in the area of Biomedical Engineering and its disciplines.
To develop the competence of members and encourage integrity among members who are engaged in the practice as Biomedical Engineers, and uphold the ethics of the profession as contained in the Code of Conduct and the Code of Practice of the Society.
To promote and protect the professional interests of its members.
To advise members, governments, other competent authorities and the general public, on national and international policy matters affecting the Biomedical Engineering profession and practice in Nigeria.
To apply or petition for any legislation, parliamentary or otherwise that will further any of the objects of the Society.
To build global affiliation and collaboration with similar professional organizations as are beneficial to and consistent with the objects of the Society.
To contribute to the formulation of policy development and assessment of educational and training curricula relating to the profession in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
To recognise and advance the interests of gender, the handicapped and other disadvantaged groups as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as relates to the information and computing society.
To develop or advise on the development of standards for Biomedical Engineering practice and its practitioners.
To publish technical, scientific, and other material on biomedical engineering through periodicals, monographs etc.
To organize national and regional meetings and to co-operate with other bodies for international and interdisciplinary meetings for the Society.
To establish liaison with the Federal, state and local Governments of Nigeria and/or health care authorities to promote the objectives, policies, viewpoints and capabilities of the Society.
To acquire and hold property which the Society may consider proper and erect on any land any building for the Society.
LIAISON WITH GOVERNMENT
The Society liaises with the Government on NSBCE matters affecting the Biomedical Engineering progression on the Boards of some government bodies and organisations.
